Inspec Now Back to 1898
What's New on Dialog - Issue 2, 2005: " Century of Engineering Indexed: Inspec? Now Back to 1898
As library space becomes a premium, print copies of early abstracts journals are becoming scarce. To overcome this, Inspec digitized the entire collection of Science Abstracts Journals (back to volume one) dating from 1898 to 1968.
An archival backfile has been produced containing:
The original value-added indexing and classifications
Enhancements in the form of the nearest equivalent current Inspec Thesaurus Terms and Inspec Classification Codes
Conference proceedings, books, journals, reports and dissertations
Longer abstracts than today varying in length from half a page to several pages including diagrams and complex mathematical proof because hard copy originals were less accessible
Dialog Implementation
On Dialog, the archive has been loaded into a separate file?File 202."
CFUW Oakville - Paula Todd - CFUW-Oakville Scholarship Fundraiser
CFUW Oakville: "CFUW-Oakville Scholarship Fundraiser Luncheon -
Saturday, October 29, 2005
CFUW-Oakville is pleased to announce that Paula Todd, popular co-host of Studio 2, TV Ontario's current events program, and host and co-producer of "Person 2 Person with Paula Todd" will be Guest Speaker at a Luncheon Scholarship Fundraiser
I attended this event and had a great time. Paula Todd is a very nice, approachable, intelligent woman. I purchased the book and stayed up way too late last night reading it.

This guide is designed to serve libraries automating their local serial holdings, particularly those implementing the MARC21 Format for Holdings Data (MFHD). It also aims to help anyone who needs to understand the format. The Guide focuses on the functions of MARC coding in general serials control and display of information. Users may look at a range of options and alternatives provided in the Format, rather than single solutions. The hope is to design a guide that is easy to use. It may be useful to consult, as a reference, a more abbreviated Handbook to the most common fields, available at http://www.lib.unc.edu/cat/mfh.
The Guide is divided into parts:
Overview of automated holdings and the purposes of coding
Overview of the structure of a MARC21 Format for Holdings data record
Individual codes
